
Research within the Health Psychology group comprises two main strands, counselling
malaga one concerned with the psychology of prevention and health promotion,
counselling malaga the other with the psychology of illness and disability.
counselling malaga In the prevention and health promotion strand, we are working
towards a functional model of health-related behaviour. This involves studying
the antecedents and consequences of the various motives that underlie health-related
behaviours (such as physical activity and sexual behaviour) counselling malaga
and the various functions that are served by coping behaviour counselling
malaga. counselling malaga The work also entails a detailed consideration
of the role of personality in health-related behaviour. In addition, counselling
malaga we have expertise in the objective measurement of physical activity,
leading to research into the preventive effects of physical activity on health
problems such as obesity in children and chronic pain in adults. In the illness
and disability strand we are studying psychosocial predictors of disease outcomes
with a view to developing interventions for patients and their informal carers.

variables (e.g. neuroticism, optimism),counselling malaga health and illness
cognitions (e.g. perceived control, recovery confidence), and coping behaviours
(including adherence), to determine emotional and physical health outcomes
(depression, carer burden, disability). We have particular interest in addressing
these questions within stroke, child asthma, and cancer populations. counselling
